I go Bass Fishing almost every night at the local golf courses. Between a friend and myself we catch and release anywhere from 6 to 20 fish in less than 3 hours. So far the biggest one I have caught was a 5 1/2 pound giant (for the size lake) on a Zoom Horny Toad fished like a Buzz Bait.
Here are the things I have learned fishing at night...
1: Fish with dark lures for the best success. The reason being that dark lures contrast best with the dark sky and the fish can see it easier.
2: When you get to your fishing location, walk slowly to the bank and make a couple casts near the shoreline. If you go up to the water's edge with heavy steps the fish can feel the vibration you give off in the steps, which will spook them.
3: Try different lures. Sometimes fishing a frog on top water works great and other times it doesn't. Make sure to have different types of lures in your tackle box. I'll list my go to lures below:

1: Buzz bait - I always throw one of these on. Not only do they work but they are incredibly fun to use. Just cast it out and burn it across the top of the water at different speeds until you get hit. Once you get a bite, WAIT until you can feel the fish on the end of your line before you set the hook. Otherwise you'll miss 80% of the fish.
2: Spinner Bait or a chatter bait - Sometimes they are amazing, sometimes not so amazing. Fish the lure with different retrieves until one works. Try jerking it, reeling it slow, fast, even dragging it across the bottom. See what retrieve is working at the time.
3: Texas rigged Soft Plastics -
Crawdad imitations work GREAT. They are one thing I always seem to get bites on. Fish it slow with little jerks to make the craw appear to be swimming... like a craw!
Ribbon Tail worms and senkos also work great. Sometimes it's better to rig them weightless, sometimes with a weight. Fish them slow also with light jerks.
4: Carolina rigged soft plastics - I don't use this method too much, but when I do I fish it about the same as I would with a texas rig. Sometimes I fish it even slower and it works even better. In this case I usually wait about 4 seconds in between jerks and it seems to work great in most cases. Just experiment between weighted texas rig, weightless texas rig, and carolina rig to see what works best for you.
5: Soft plastic frogs - This is a 60/40 kinda deal. 60% of the time the fish bite, 40% of the time they want nothing to do with it. I fish it weightless texas rigged and burn it across the top of the water like a buzz bait. Try it and see if it works.
